General Classroom Procedures and Policies

6th, 7th, and 8th Grades

I.                    Classroom Rules

1.  Be on time

·        Students should be in homeroom by 7:45A.M. to begin the day promptly at 8:00A.M.

·        All students should be in the designated morning care classroom until 7:45A.M. No student should be in the halls, alone in a classroom, or hanging out with other students in a classroom at anytime. This is for the student’s safety.

·        Students may carry their backpacks to class, but should put them in the designated areas in the classroom.

2.      Be prepared

·        All necessary materials and homework should be brought to class.

·        Each student should be completely and properly dressed for school.

·        Students must have a DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) book at all times. This material does not include magazines or comic books. Puzzle books and crossword puzzles are allowed.

3.      Be respectful

·        It is imperative that students show respect for teachers, other students and each other's property.

II.                  Homework

·        The purpose of the homework assignment is to reinforce the lessons learned in class or to introduce the lessons for the next day.  It also enables students to work on assignments independently.

·        Assignment pad checks will be random and will be given a homework grade.

·        Assignments should be written at the time given.

III.

            Make-up work policy

·        Any graded work missed for an excused absence is to be made up upon returning to school.

·        It is the student's responsibility to approach the teachers to make arrangements for completing missed work.  This must be done on the first day the student returns to school after an absence.

·        Tests will be made up after school or at a teacher designated time. Quizzes will be made up during class or at the discretion of the teacher.

·        Students will receive one make-up day for each day absent.  If more time is needed, students must get prior approval from the teacher(s).  If no attempt is made to make-up missed work, the student will receive a failing grade on the assignment.

·        Sports practices and/or extra-circular activities are not an excuse for missing make-up workdays.
